How is it possible that squirrels are able to accomplish their task in a thick forest filled with other creatures? They have to work thoroughly and bravely. They scurry around, gather food, build their nest and take care of their young. Where does that motivation come from?

In the book it’s described as the „Spirit of the Squirrel“, which has been translated as the vision to do a „meaningful job“. This is divided into three aspects:

1.    The idea that their activities are important to improve the forest,

2.    Each are working towards a collective goal,

3.    All plans, decisions and activities are built upon certain values.

Could you agree that this sounds a bit like a Naturalist’s observations?

As you might have foreseen, only following the spirit of the squirrel isn’t enough. In addition, the way of the beaver is needed to go a step further.
